Job purpose Interserve are currently looking for a Divisional Plant Manager. Interserve Plant Division provides plant hire solutions to both the Interserve group of companies but also external customers within the UK. We have our headquarters in Aldridge West Midlands but also have depots in Swansea Belvedere and Wigan. We have Plant operating throughout the UK. Responsibilities What you'll do The following reflect the main tasks associated with the position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive: Overall leadership of Operational Plant business; Report directly to the business unit Director and will be the champion of best practice; Set the strategic and financial plan for sustainable business growth; Manage the business effectiveness and ensure customer satisfaction through the delivery of operational excellence; Oversee the planning, Scheduling, Resourcing and quality control of the Plant business; You will be responsible for the purchasing of new plant equipment to meet work requirements and the sale of equipment once deemed unsuitable for the business needs; Act as the company leader for the creation and maintenance of the highest standards of plant health & safety and continuous improvement; Ensure the Plant is properly managed and maintained to meet workflow requirements; Make certain that the quality assurance, control and regulatory compliance are maintained and that a behavioural approach to quality is embedded across the organisation; Ensure that highest standards of HSEQ related to Plant use and maintenance are regularly reviewed and maintained throughout the company; Deliver operating objectives and ensure that standards of performance are understood and owned by relevant parties; Manage business development for the UK plant operations; Oversee the control of “On/Off hire” using InspHire plant system; Oversee the hire desk operation providing support when necessary with customers hire enquiries and negotiating best hire terms; Oversee the processing of damaged/missing item transactions with customers; Support the hire desk with invoice disputes with customers and negotiated settlements; Oversee the use of the transport fleet for the delivery and collection of plant; Ensure effective communication between workshop and hire desk so plant items, that are required for customers, are serviced, checked and repaired prior to leaving the depot; Maintain regular customer contact to check for any new requirements; Communicate with other depots with reference to plant availability, plant transfers, and customers future hire requirements; Oversee the day to day running of the plant hire office; Oversee stock management/stock levels; Liaise with re-hire suppliers to negotiate best terms and prices and carry our regular reviews; Oversee the use of purchase orders authorising as required. Knowledge skills & experience Would ideally have worked in an equivalent role in the plant hire industry; Excellent I.T. skills; Friendly, positive attitude; Have a strong customer service ethic; Excellent punctuality and reliability. What you'll bring As a Plant Manager your main skills and experience will include: Essential: A background from a construction plant role with experience in the management of operational activities related to all types of construction plant and equipment; A good understanding of elements necessary to deliver effective supply chain management and support across the organisation; Excellent interpersonal skills are required to manage a team and for relationships with sites and clients; The ability to motivate, lead and engage a diverse team with due consideration to employee development, succession and performance management; The ability to operate effectively and harness results through a cross-functional team; A strong communicator, comfortable interfacing with senior directors and external clients; High level of employee focus, business pragmatism and understanding; IT literacy. Desirable: Previous experience as a plant manager for a leading construction company or plant hirer; Experience with managing a crawler crane fleet and a basic knowledge of tower cranes for hire related procurement purposes; Formal safety management training, preferably IOSH level 3 certified; Proven experience of budgeting and forecasting and the ability to develop and maintain effective metrics to monitor performance.
