Role Overview: We are currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer within our Technical Services team as we grow and strengthen the service we provide to the business. The overall responsibility of the Design Engineer is to ensure successful execution and completion of design outputs for a number of projects, meeting defined timescales, milestones, quality standards whilst meeting commercial objectives. This will also involve managing relationship's internal and external and upholding the Galliford Try Process "Values". Key Accountabilities: - Responsible and accountable for the design output of their discipline (i.e. either process, mechanical or electrical) on the project - To ensure that the design outputs (including procurement packages) are achieved on time, meet the design requirements, meet the commercial objectives (and constraints) and achieve an acceptable level of quality - To produce designs which meet the multi-disciplinary requirements of the project - Design robust technical solutions - Read and understand relevant Client specifications and approval requirements - Understand the budget and target values for the packages of work - Identify technical improvements and cost savings for the work packages - To maintain excellent working relationships with the clients / partners and other potential clients / partners - To work continuously to improve standards of performance and improve efficiency - To fully own, be responsible and accountable for their design output (i.e. process, electrical or mechanical). Also to offer design support throughout the project (i.e. feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction and commissioning) - To support and maintain good communications with all members of the design and project team. Thus ensuring an acceptable multi-disciplinary design output - To develop best value, robust designs solutions which can withstand external challenge - Work within the project plan timescales - To work to the project Design Activity Schedule (produced by the Lead Design Engineer) thus ensuring all required design deliverables are completed on time - To understand and communicate the design risk and assumptions associated with the project and support the Lead Design Engineer in managing this risk. To record the risks and assumptions as the project progresses - Discuss all design changes and agree an appropriate response - To ensure that the designers responsibilities under CDM are adhered to - To promote good H&S practice and minimise risks to operators / maintainers (e.g. designing out confined spaces and working from heights) - To understand the environmental issues associated with the design and to support the Lead Design Engineer in managing them through the design process - To work to the company Project Delivery System (BMS) - To share best practice and good / bad experiences with other so that Design Bulletins can be raised as a learning tool for all. Also, to ensure that all Design Bulletins are adhered to. - Identify potential improvements to the Galliford Try systems, processes and procedures - Examine and evaluate the project and learn from it - Identify, propose and test innovative ideas - To identify opportunities for "additional work" for Galliford Try and support the Engineering Manager on engineering initiatives Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications: - Preferably BEng (Hons) Engineering (relevant discipline based) however for experienced engineers BTEC HNC Engineering (relevant discipline based) may be accepted. - City & Guilds - latest edition Electrical Regulations BS7671 (electrical discipline only) - To attain the appropriate IEng or CEng accreditation - Detailed knowledge of the design process, engineering and in particular their engineering design discipline (i.e. process, mechanical or electrical) - Have a good understanding of the other engineering disciplines within the design team (i.e. process, mechanical, electrical, ICA and CAD) - Have a general understanding of project commercial issues and constraints - Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures - To join and be part of an appropriate professional body (e.g. IMechE, IChemE and IET) In Return: We offer an opportunity to work on some of the UKs most exciting construction projects, in a fast paced environment where each day brings new challenges as well as a competitive salary and benefits package.
