The Senior Project Engineer role reports directly to the Production Engineering Manager and his/her key responsibilities include the following; - Project/NPI Lead. - ECI Management. - Technical support to Commercial team during sourcing / NPI period. - Process development and implementation. - Kaizen activity development and lead up thereof. - Document and drawing control. Key Responsibilities (but not limited to) Project Leadership and Delivery(NPI) When assigned to a project, the Senior Project Engineer will act as the lead person delivering the process from nomination stage onwards through to 'Go-live' period. - Working to the appropriate NPI systems, support the commercial team with all technical aspects required for any RFQ activity. - Develop a project specific Master Activity Schedule in line with Customer requirements. - Manage the project on a routine basis using visual management tools to clearly demonstrate the current status of the process. - Co-ordinate other technical departments (e.g. PE, Maintenance, Quality) where appropriate to generate the best tooling requirements and lead the buy-off and procurement thereof. - Control suppliers (either Tier 2 component part or tooling) to ensure that they remain on target and in-line with project timelines. - Develop and manage all other related departments (and their nominated primary members) through the DPP (Departmental Preparation Plan) tools and regular reviews.Engineering Change Instruction (ECI) Management - Following client ECI standards, receive, store and share information appertaining to new ECI customer requirements. - Create a data pack and share with key persons for full internal understanding of change points. - Co-ordinate an interdepartmental team culminating in smooth change point management with zero risk to client or the customers DPM and PPM score. - Act as mentor for junior Production Engineers with this activity.Document / Drawing Management - Manage, improve and maintain drawing systems (soft and hard copies) and ensure that the latest revisions are stored and available at request. - Control all departmental documentation in line with a Kaizen and 5S mentality. Key Skills and Experience Required: - Dynamic & Reactive person able to respond to difficult or short lead-times and unforeseen changes. - Information Systems Skills (e.g. Microsoft Office package) - Communication Skills. - Verbal and Written Presentation Skills with a strong understanding of visual management styles. - Very strong autonomous and responsible workload management - Very strong ability to lead and co-ordinate Projects and People (of all Departments and Grades) - Negotiation skills. - Systematic and thorough approach to workload, ensuring a high quality of finished work. - Previous experience in an automotive / robotic based environment. - Proven experience in production layout and process design and development. - Strong understanding of quality tools and metrics. Education / Qualifications - HNC/HND in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent. - Project management qualification (e.g. Prince2 or equivalent). - APQP/PPAP certified desirable. - Able to understand and create 2D/3D models. - 6 Sigma certified desirable. - 8D certified desirable.
