REPORTS TO: Managing Director RESPONSIBLE FOR: Mechanical/ Electrical/ Process design and drawing office LOCATION: Stafford COMPANY: My client is a market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of biomass power stations. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: To ensure the Engineering Department within the company provides an effective resource to both the 'front end' and project delivery teams through the establishment of a 'best practice' culture and operational activity. MAIN DUTIES: To oversee the effective co-ordination and resourcing of the design department disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical and Process and the drawing office as well as coordinating (where appropriate) with external drafting providers To prepare design budgets and monitor monthly costs against budget To schedule and track the progress of each design discipline, whether internal or external, for each particular project, including Authority submissions, in line with the overall programme agreed with the client To review and co-ordinate in conjunction with the designated project designer external parties drawings with M&E and process design proposals; comment and action amendments where necessary with relevant parties To instigate and co-ordinate Value Engineering for each design discipline To provide technical hands-on assistance where required To prepare project design claims for submission to Client ensuring all relevant costs are captured including submissions fees, travel expenses, courier charges, advertising and reimbursable expenses To chair weekly/fortnightly internal Design Co-Ordination Meetings, to review design requirements, changes, schedule, submissions, value added engineering, manpower and resources together with the Design Department for all projects To minute and follow up actions with relevant parties To chair, attend, analyse and contribute to weekly consultants meetings and client review meetings and to follow up actions with relevant parties To ensure implementation and regular updating of the Project Tracker system To monitor and record changes and variations to the project instructed by the Client. To follow up with Commercial Department with respect to providing information in order to value change as well as providing cost analysis for design fee if required To develop and instigate all relevant procedures for effective management, control and tracking of Design Department activities. To be the first point of contact within Engineering for any external enquiries via the specific project manager. To work closely with the Managing Director in drawing upon the knowledge and experience of the Technical and Engineering Directors to ensure effective knowledge transfer PROFILE Influencing Possess the capability to influence and persuade others and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the team and across the group. Proactively counsel ideas and opinions of others EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS University degree in engineering, or similar qualification. Alternatively, significant experience gained in capital plant Project Management complemented by training. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE 5 years of relevant industrial experience Construction and site experience Preferred: Contracting, Planning and scheduling experience
