Head of Independent Sales (Food)

Salary: Competitive, plus excellent benefits

Location: Field based on a national basis (expected to work 2-3 days in the field with the balance of time in the office each week in Leek, Staffordshire)

Our client Cottage Delight is an award-winning speciality food producer, with a wide range of high quality, innovative food products sold to independent retail trades both nationally and internationally.  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Independent Sales to join the Senior Leadership Team based in Staffordshire.   The purpose of the role is to lead a team of field and Telesales representatives to grow and sustain sales from existing independent and Group Garden Centre customers and to realise opportunities for the growth of new business and development of customer relationships.

Key accountabilities:

  • Deliver the annual independent sales and performance target
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a Sales Strategy for Independent Sales
  • Leadership of a high performing and engaged sales team
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key independent and Group Garden Centre customers
  • Monitoring and reporting on independent sales performance
  • An ambassador for the Cottage Delight brand

What about you?

As a Head of Independent Sales, you will have:

  • 5 years’ proven leadership experience in a sales environment, with a strong field sales element
  • Ability to achieve results through your team
  • Proven experience in business development and account management
  • Experience of management of senior stakeholders
  • Business or Marketing degree (or significant experience in a senior strategic or operational role in a sales environment)

In addition, you may have:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Sales & Account Management (ISMM) or Level 6 Executive Diploma in Strategic Sales and Account Management (ISMM)

You will be either:

An experienced Head of Sales/Sales Director


An experienced Head of Sales/Sales Manager who has proven experience that matches our job specification although is not yet operating at this level.  You must have the potential to transition to take on responsibility for all Group Garden Centre accounts after 12 months in the role.
