Based in the Faculty of Academic & Creative Studies, the college are looking for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified individual to support learners and measure the impact of Tutorials, through identification of learner strengths, aspirations and needs. You will agree and monitor targets to facilitate progress in both academic and personal goals, relative to their starting point.

The College considers its Tutorial system as a vital element in the support, engagement and retention of learners. As a Personal Tutor you will be a central contact for the learner and will actively promote pastoral support from the onset and right through to the end of the 'learner journey'.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To make contact with parents to introduce your role, discuss progress, issues and attendance etc.
  • To support learners in the application process to university.
  • To effectively utilise the Promonitor system to implement appropriate support and take action at an early stage.
  • To provide support to learners with personal, domestic or social difficulties by referring them on to the appropriate College contact or external agency.
  • To promote effective achievement and retention through the target setting and review process using their ILP (Individual Learning Plan).
  • To conduct effective tutorial activities.
  • To promote acceptable learner behaviour, attendance, punctuality and progress.
  • To liaise with Curriculum and Support Staff and inform the Lead Tutor where a learner's place may be at risk and to ensure appropriate support is in place.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Has a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of working with Higher Education / UCAS application processes (Desirable).
  • Has a teaching qualification and/or relevant experience of working with 16 - 19 year olds in an academic or pastoral context.
  • Is able to develop a good rapport with 16 - 19 year old learners both in a group situation and on a one to one basis.
