Civil Design Engineer
About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business.
Based in Derby, this role will report into the Principal Engineer and work on one of our projects.
What you'll be doing
As a Design Engineer you will have:
A proven track record in the delivery of engineering projects, including preparing reports to a high technical level in one or more of the following markets: roads, ports and harbours, rail, water, energy, insurance, private sector. Understanding of client requirements, including those not captured in the contract, and the ability to influence contract specifications
Demonstrable ability to lead engineering design teams within a multi-disciplinary environment for Power T&D (Transmission, Distribution, Substations & HV Cabling) together with a full understanding of design submission documentation and processes. An up-to-date knowledge of relevant UK legislation relevant to the profession & Sector
Technical expertise in temporary works/ civil & geotechnical engineering with a demonstrable understanding of the underlying principles of structures & Soil Mechanics.
Consultancy experience across a range of business sectors with demonstrably good commercial awareness and relationships with clients & contractors. Has strong communication and proven project management skills in a temporary works / civils team within a competitive business environment
Report writing and client liaison skills. Will have proven previous experience of undertaking and managing: design of reinforced concrete foundations and/or structures, steel structures; the specification of SI's; the design, review and management of intricate Temporary works/ Civils schemes including managing their implementation on site
Who we're looking for
You will have:
Significant experience in geotechnical consulting
Significant experience in the design of reinforced concrete foundations/structures
Experience in domestic and international projects for a range of clients
Experience in Power Sector (Generation /Transmision /Distribution /HV Cabling)
A BSc in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
