About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Mechanical Engineer within our Engineering Technology Solutions (ETS) business based in Derby.

In this role, you will provide efficient and effective on and off site specialist engineering support for new and existing products and services. Supporting the full project lifecycle from requirements capture, through to final testing and vehicle commissioning and beyond to in-service support. You will also undertake the design of the mechanical elements of infrastructure and Rail Vehicle mounted measurement systems, utilising a variety of measurement devices and techniques.

Playing a pivotal role in this niche and growing business you will ensure that an overarching view of system requirements is taken to ensure end users' needs are fulfilled whilst maintaining familiarity with emerging and current technology in order to ensure that appropriate development routes are selected.

What you'll be doing

This is a varied and interesting role, with involvement in key areas of the Balfour Beatty business.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:

Managing the delivery of mechanical design tasks for a project in collaboration with the relevant project managers.
Participating in kick off meetings for projects to identify hardware requirements and the appropriate dependencies in collaboration with a multidisciplinary project team.
Generating hardware designs and requirement specifications for projects.
Producing design documentation allowing the proper management of the engineering process.
Working with the extended team to ensure that the data acquisition software and electrical elements of the system are compatible with mechanical solutions.
Ensuring that measurement installations and unattended data collection systems are undertaken in accordance with agreed codes of practice.
Supporting the procurement of outsourced mechanical/fabrication manufacture and assembly.

Who we're looking for
To be successful in this role, you will have;

Working knowledge of mechanical design techniques.
Working knowledge of finite element analysis methodologies.
Knowledge of information systems.
Ability to produce technical documentation.
Accredited degree alongside working towards chartership for the relevant engineering institution.
