Job title: Application Packaging and Software Deployment Engineer



Purpose of Role:
The role holder is responsible for the packaging of "Off the Shelf" and BT developed applications into Windows Installer (MSI) or App-V format. These application will be deployed to BT PC's using System Centre Configuration Manager.
He / she will be responsible for operationally managing and troubleshooting application deployments in System Centre Configuration Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical documentation on a range of technical issues as required.
Installation and configuration of customer specific business applications.
Management of hardware and source media required for application package creation.
Problem management and troubleshooting.
Work with clients to capture and document software application configuration requirements.
Peer review application packages in line with business and packaging standards for other team members.
Work with clients to facilitate UAT testing, ensuring sign off and all outstanding issues are documented/reported.
Report verbally and via process documentation project progress / issues to line management.
Produce procedural documentation of application packaging processes for the benefit of knowledge sharing and improved efficiency.
Keep up-to-date with current and future technologies, products and strategies.
Management of application packaging library and workflow tracking system.

Business Impact:
Contribute up to date detailed technology know-how to projects. Would generally act under supervision but may be required, Out Of Hours, to work in isolation and take professional decisions to restore critical BT business functionality. Provides accurate completion and delivery of supervised work.

Authority/Decision Making:
Completes own role independently or with minimal supervision/guidance. Uses discretion in identifying and resolving complex problems and assignments. Specific instruction is usually given and work is reviewed at frequent milestones. Determines when problems should be escalated to a higher level. Ability to determine the delegation to team members that report to the role. May have some budget responsibility.


Proficient in the Wise or InstallShield packaging toolset Proficient in the Microsoft App-V Sequencing toolset. Working Experience in Orca or Instedit Working Experience of Automatic Configuration in Windows using Powershell and WMI Working experience of application compatibility troubleshooting using Microsoft Application Verifier and Compatibility administrator WinDbg Process Monitor Dependency Walker Fiddler Internet Explorer F12 Development tools Working experience of SCCM 2012 for application management and deployment. Use of Virtual Machine technologies in a packaging environment. Interpersonal and professional skills:
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Mentor other members of team
Ability to manage multiple work activities to service level agreements
