If it's your dream to become a teacher and to share your love of English literature and language with young minds, then this Teaching Assistant position with my client school in Birmingham could be the winning ticket. Based to the south west of Birmingham my client school is keen to appoint a first class English graduate to join them for the coming academic year on a full time basis as a Graduate Learning Mentor/Teaching Assistant.

The school, set in beautiful grounds, is over 60 years old but has undergone extensive refurbishment and the addition of new buildings. The school's catchment area takes pupils from both rural and city primary schools giving it a mixed and diverse feel.

Their English department is looking to recruit a graduate of English to work closely with their GCSE pupils as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. The department has a fantastic tradition of achievement with high expectation of the teaching staff and its pupils. Due to these expectations they are only wanting to employ English graduates who have graduated with a good degree and have unrivalled levels of academic achievement at GCSE and A Level.

The tasks of a Graduate Teaching Assistant are wide and varied and will be different everyday depending on the topic and structure of the lesson being taught. You will need to use your imitative in responding to the needs of the pupils and of the English Teacher you're working with. It is essential you have a passion for English and literature and a desire to share your knowledge with pupils. You will also need the ability to adapt your approach dependent on the ability of the pupil(s) you're assisting.

This position is ideal for those that see themselves as future teachers, either as an English Teacher in a secondary school or a Primary Teacher with a literacy specialism. It's hard work but at the same time very rewarding as you see improvement in the pupils you mentor.
