Newcastle and Stockton-On-Tees (4 vacancies)36 hours per weekPermanentGBP 17,198 (Starting salary) to GBP 18,056 (after completion of 6 month probationary period)About the roleThis post is a fantastic opportunity to join our expanding Ambulance Support Team.The ambulance crew are responsible for the day to day operation and deployment of a Red Cross Emergency Ambulance working under contract for North East Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NEAS).The role will be to work as part of a two person team responsible for providing safe, effective emergency care for service users who require admission to hospitals within the North East of England, and if necessary further.It may be necessary to respond as a "first response" to life threatening emergencies, or assist and support another qualified practitioner in the delivery of high quality and effective clinical and personal care and the safe transportation of patients. You will utilise your qualification in selecting and applying appropriate equipment and skills to treat and transport patients in line with the scope of practice current protocols and Care Quality Commission standards.Candidates are required to provide proof of an Institute of Healthcare development (IHCD) or 'Pearson Award' qualification equivalent and emergency 'blue light driving' certificate.About the teamAmbulance Support services are delivered under contract to NHS Ambulance Trusts and Ambulance Commissioners across the UK. In England, we provide urgent and emergency ambulance support to the North East, South Central, and South East Coast NHS Ambulance Trusts. In Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man we provide Patient Transport Services under contract to local Health commissioners.Our services are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England and we apply the same standards to our service delivery across the whole of the UK.Ambulance Support services are delivered by around 140 full-time employed staff and a further 80 casual staff trained to provide patient transport, urgent, or emergency ambulance services as required operating from 15 bases across the UK. Our services are directly managed by dedicated teams led by Service Delivery managers supported by Co-ordinators and Team Leaders. A national leadership team oversees our service performance, quality and development.In addition to our contracted Ambulance Support services, the British Red Cross provides ad-hoc, short-notice ambulance support (for example, surge-capacity) through our volunteer ambulance crew managed by our Event First Aid services. We also offer supported hospital discharge services through our Independent Living services.About the personApplicants must evidence how they meet each element of the personal specification (attached) in detail within their personal statement. * Educated to GCSE level or equivalent by experience. * Full UK drivers licence with C1 category or full UK licence and willingness to work towards C1 category. * 'Pearson Award' (formally known as 'IHCD')/industry similar qualification * An understanding of working within contractual obligations. * Knowledge of CQC and its role within patient safety. * Maintain a working knowledge of, and operate, all required types of communication equipment (including telephone / radio / MDTs) * Access to a car and able to travel as appropriate to the needs of the organisation. * To be able to work shifts and provide cover for other colleagues working within the project including unsocial hours, bank holidays evenings and weekends as required. * Able to respond to emergency call out events.Closing date for applications is (23:59), Thursday, 29th June 2017.Successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview week commencing 10th July 2017.About the organisation The British Red Cross helps millions of people in the UK and around the world to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies, disasters and conflicts.Our volunteers and staff help people in crisis to live independently by providing support at home, mobility aids and transport.
