Monarch Education is working closely with a Pupil Referral Unit based in the North Birmingham area who are seeking a Level 3 qualified Teaching Assistant to support within their centre. It is essential that you have a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification as they cannot accept equivalents and you must have an in-date Team Teach certificate and be extremely confident managing difficult behaviour. It is essential that you have previous experience of working across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 supporting children with mild to extreme behavioural difficulties. You must be confident with your Team Teach training as you may be required to use restraint techniques. This centre is a short stay provision where typically students have a stay of 20 weeks but you will find that some pupils are there for 1 year. Majority of the children in the centre have been excluded from mainstream education due to extremes of behaviour and the aim of the PRU is to maintain a level of excellent education as well as trying to re-integrate the pupil back into mainstream or special needs education. Many of the pupils have SEMH so previous experience of supporting in this area is preferential. You must be extremely pro-active in your approach to Education and can promote independent learning, responding to any signs of distress or conflict and feedback back to the teacher about progress.
