Our client, one of the world's most prestigious OEM's, is looking to recruit a contract Mechanical Design Engineer focussing on handles, locks and latches. The purpose of the CAD Engineer - Locks and Latches is to design and develop closure latching systems and handle mechanisms for future vehicle programmes.

The key responsibilities and tasks of the role include:

• Create and update designs for body mechanisms components and installations on new vehicle pro-grammes using UG NX. (including interior /exterior door handles, latching systems, and deploying tow-bar)
• Manage product structure in Computer Aided Design and coordinate all data import / export to/from suppliers
• Investigate concerns from component testing, prototype and production builds to establish root cause and design solutions.
• Support virtual build events and other cross functional reviews to ensure compatibility of components with interfacing systems and design surfaces.
• Assist in developing component and system function, quality and attribute targets and ensure that all designs are compatible with these targets.
• Participate in Failure Mode Avoidance activities including Design Failure Modules and Effects Analysis and physical testing on bucks, rigs and prototype vehicles.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Engineering degree (or equivalent).
• Experience gained within the design and integration of automotive body mechanisms and/or closure systems.
• Experience in designing / developing components for one or more of the following commodities closure latching systems, deployable / detachable tow-bars, interior / exterior trim mouldings.
• A working knowledge of component manufacturing and tooling requirements (stamping, injection moulding, casting, fabrication).
• Experienced NX user.
• Design of mechanisms in Computer Aided Design including basic kinematic / stress analysis
• Familiar with Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and design verification testing
