Graduate Learning Support Assistant - what is the role like?

If you have a passion to support a variety of learners in your core degree subject then this role is the perfect opportunity for you to build experience prior to teacher training. As a graduate learning support assistant you will be assisting students and colleagues within your core subject department in order to raise attainment and expectations amongst all learners. On a daily basis you will be both assisting within the classroom, helping students with their class work, but also holding small intervention/booster sessions to support learners who need additional support - whether that be due to the students being on the C/D borderline or A/A* border. You will be exposed to what life as a teacher is really like so that you can make an informed decision after your full academic year in this role as to whether becoming a teacher is the right path for you. If becoming a teacher is where your passion lies this role will allow you to gain experience in many of the key teaching areas such as planning, differentiation and behaviour management. The following academic year if you do decide to embark on a teacher training journey this school has some facility to train graduates to teach through their SCITT programme.
