Teaching Assistant Person Specification
You will be a graduate from a leading university with a degree in mathematics or science. If your degree is science based you will need strong skills in mathematics and ideally a high grade at A level in the subject. Graduates need to have obtained at least a 2:1. You will be looking at a future as a secondary school teacher and planning to start teacher training either next year or the year after. You will have previous experience of supporting young people which could be academically based or in a role outside of school. Most importantly is the right attitude and a commitment to getting the best out of the pupils you work with.

About the role
You will be working with the school's pupils in both Key Stage 3 and 4 (there is a small amount of work at A Level) across their science and mathematics departments. A lot of your time will be spent working with pupils who don't find science and mathematics the easiest of subject and who require additional help in order to achieve a good grade. You will be supporting the department's teachers with lesson planning, delivery, marking and intervention. As you progress through the year you will learn effective teaching strategies that you'll be able to use and develop as you start your teacher training. As some of the pupils you work with may struggle to grasp topics taught in the traditional way you will need the ability to think of alternative methods to help pupils understand.

The school
This multicultural school is located to the south west of Birmingham city centre and is supported by excellent public transport links for graduates that don't drive. It's a relatively small school and sixth form which give it a personal feel that can so often be lost with larger establishments. The school performs exceptionally well year on year with close to 90% achieving 5 A*-C GCSE's last year. They are extremely supportive of graduates coming to the school who are looking to train in the future as teachers.
