Overview Our client has long been established as one of the UK's leading specialist structural steelwork contractors, renowned for providing technically advanced and cost-effective solutions across a variety of sectors including building, civil engineering, rail, industrial, commercial and infrastructure. As one of the largest specialist contractors in the industry, they are able to provide clients with a truly bespoke engineered solution, all to the required British Standards, and fully supported by their state of the art processes and technologies. Their offering includes access / architectural / secondary / structural steelwork, mezzanine flooring, structural chimneys and flues, and support masts. Due to continued growth, new investment and a number of recent, significant contract awards our client is now looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to assist in their further ambitious expansion plans. You will be based within the company's Midlands head offices, and candidates must be able to demonstrate a commercial aptitude along with previous estimating experience within the structural steel / structural engineering, RC, concrete structures or general engineering / fabrication sectors. The role will also involve an element of technical sales / business development. The Role To successfully contribute, and on occasions, oversee all elements in the build up and submission of estimates / bid / tender proposals To produce competitive estimates for a wide variety of projects / schemes in response to Client specifications You will work in a close knit team responsible at all stages for all aspects relating to the budgets, costing and financial elements of technically complex, client focused estimates and schedules To be financially responsible in a core work winning team coupled with the accountability for practical completion of all stages of estimates / tender proposals To co-ordinate the whole financial / cost process, and to work closely with various Clients, Contractors and Suppliers To ensure professional relationships (internal / external) are developed and maintained to maximise the opportunity to successfully procure and profitably deliver projects To co-ordinate estimates in line with the design / procurement / project team members, to ensure that the information flow and progress achieve the necessary deadlines To work closely with the Directors, Managers and other members of various teams to ensure that the company position is maintained at the highest potential level To contribute to the process structure for estimates / tenders, and review the effectiveness of this at regular intervals Pursue existing clients and new customer contacts to assist in work winning and potential future work opportunity To meet at regular intervals and provide formal progress reports for presentation to Management To manage and co-ordinate information and the communication process both within the team and to external stakeholders The Person Able to demonstrate estimating experience / competence within the structural steelwork (any area / application, including general engineering / steel fabrication), RC structures, concrete structures or structural engineering arena, ideally with expertise of a wide variety of schemes covering the above disciplines Be able to operate hands-on in a non-confrontational manner and thrive in a team orientated environment Be able to demonstrate sound commercial acumen but with the ability to delegate necessary responsibility Must be able to demonstrate successful client management techniques To have experience of successfully negotiating and completing estimates / tenders with a variety of public and private sector clients Should have presence, be well presented and outward going Must have excellent time management skills, being able to effectively prioritise and delegate against deadlines Open to new ideas, not set in their ways able to think laterally Ensuring maximisation of financial return, whilst maintaining and developing relationships via service levels and quality of the management process To be able to take a strategic view and prioritise effectively A motivator and team player who is able to evaluate problems or issues and offer solutions This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an Estimator operating at any level / offering any level of experience from the structural steelwork (any area / application, including general engineering / steel fabrication), RC structures, concrete structures or structural engineering sector.
