Junior Estimator (Mechanical or Electricial)
Title of Position: Junior Estimator Title Position Reports to: Design & Estimating Manager Type of Employment: Full Time, Permanent Location: Derby Job Purpose To prepare estimates, quotations and budget prices to secure orders for work including :- - Assist an Estimator with client liaison - Review client specifications and requirements. - Site Visits and surveys - Quantity take offs from drawings - Scope Development from outline brief working in conjunction with senior estimator as necessary - Prepare requests for quotations to Sub Contractors and Suppliers. - Preparation of cost sheets. - Calculation of Labour Rates. - Preparation of Tender letters. - Basic tender programmes and schedules. - Attendance of Hand Over meetings to Project teams. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities - To handle tender preparation from acceptance of enquiry through to final submission working to strict deadlines throughout. - To liaise with clients where necessary and to obtain specific information relevant to tender content and preparation. - To obtain prices for bought out items and sub-contracts against relevant specifications, criteria and conditions. - To make a preliminary assessment of overhead costs and prepare tender summaries for management agreement. - To prepare material and labour take-off for pricing. - To comply with Group and Company policies and procedures. Working Relationships Internal - Interface with Surveyors, Designers, Buyers, Estimators, Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Department, Central Engineering and Design Department (CEDD), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) Department and Human Resource (HR) Department. External - Interface with Clients, Suppliers and Sub-contractors. Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills The knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience relevant to the position are: Essential - Electrical, Mechanical estimating experience within the Infrastructure, Industrial and building services - High level of accuracy and commercial acumen - Design understanding - Quality of estimating proposals - Good communication and presentational skills Desirable - Ability to produce programme utilising Microsoft Projects - Electrical and/or Mechanical estimating experience within the building services sector - Ability to utilise "Estimation" for preparation of tenders, or as a minimum good knowledge of excel - Ability to utilise AutoCAD - Ability to utilise Amtech Competencies The core support team competency framework for the position are: - Teamwork - actively contributes to the team and strives to improve teams' effectiveness through personal commitment. - Planning, Organising & Executing - able to understand the priorities, plan and organise the work and manage own time to deliver within the expected timescales. - Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, impressing others and ensuring understanding of all relevant information in all circumstances. - Commercial Awareness - understands the importance for managing costs and expense, applying the necessary controls. - Risk Management - is aware on the impact on risk to the business and applies the necessary controls. - Adaptability - is responsive and open to changing circumstance. - Drive for Excellence - aims to deliver a high standard of work. - Self Motivation and Development - is confident in own ability and is motivated to deliver, using opportunities to further develop. - Customer Awareness - responsive to the needs of the customer and aims to deliver customer satisfaction.
