Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Technician to manage a team of 4 Technicians in their Stoke-on-Trent Plant. Responsibilities will include: To ensure all product and constituent testing relating to aggregates and asphalt products is carried out in a safe and timely manner. To help manage the technical staff and promote the awareness of company safety policies and procedures at all times. To play active part in maintaining a strong SHE culture both within the department and on any sites visited. Help to drive a zero harm culture. To carry out technical testing and supervise Technicians, ensure testing is carried out in accordance with BS EN Standards and Accreditations. To ensure testing procedures are fully documented and understood and communicated to any Technicians supervised by the jobholder. To be commercially aware and understand the value to the business of a fast accurate testing service. Accountabilities Safety - to promote a safety culture, instil high safety standards and awareness. Test procedures - to ensure testing procedures are fully documented, understood and communicated. Sampling and Testing - to carry out sampling and testing in line with procedures. To plan the workload on a daily basis to meet the test requirements. To provide advice to Technical Supervisors and Managers / Production Staff on test results and interpretation and understanding of the results. To provide test reports to help investigate customer complaints and queries. To coach and assist Technicians and ensure they know how to and to carry out work in line with company procedures and in a safe manner. Product test data - to understand how to use statistical reports and control systems. Results required Promote safety culture and awareness, holding people to account where failures occur. Drive a zero harm culture. Maintain a safe and accredited laboratory environment and have the correct equipment available in calibration. Ensure all sampling and testing is carried out to the required quality standards. Ensure the local team knows how to sample and test correctly and safely. Maintain and amend HIRA's where appropriate; instil the importance of stop assessments with staff. Provide standard test reports and supporting data to the Technical Team. Help carry out complaint investigations using laboratory testing and provide test certification. Commercial awareness of testing deadlines and accurate reporting. NVQ - Level - Technician or similar relevant in house certification. Certificate of Management or equivalent would be desirable but not essential. Sound knowledge of Asphalt & Aggregates products and company procedures. Full knowledge of how to meet sampling rates, reporting of results. Sound knowledge of asphalt and aggregates, test requirements and customer specifications. Knowledge and understanding of relevant BS EN Standards and their application. Full knowledge of company safety procedures. Some knowledge of raw material requirements. Some knowledge of asphalt and Aggregates production processes Desirable Exposure to added value products and thin wearing course procedures and requirements Exposure to Paving operations and techniques Exposure to hard rock and sand and gravel processes Exposure to commercial issues Skills Ability to work in a team Ability to advise people on technical issues Problem solving and analytical skills Can make decisions Can clearly communicate Managing individuals and teams Hours of work 07:00 - 16:00 or 07:30 - 16:30 If you would like to apply please send your CV together with your salary requirements, notice period and reasons for leaving past and present employment.
